Bob, Picture This

Bob, Picture This

If there was ever proof that creativity can rise out of chaos, it’s Bob, the maker behind Picture This. His medium? High quality photography prints that capture hidden details others miss, the kind of moments you’d walk straight past, but he’ll spot through the lens.

But photography wasn’t always part of the plan. Thirteen years ago, Bob had a stroke. Picking up a camera was never supposed to be a “business move”  it was a way to cope, to heal, to find light again (literally). He admits he had no idea what he was doing; settings, editing, all of it was overwhelming. So he just pointed the camera, pressed the shutter, and hoped for the best. Somehow, those early photos connected with people. What began as messy experimentation turned into an outlet for his mental health, and eventually a path to sharing his work. “It shouldn’t have worked out the way it did,” he says, “but it completely changed my life.”

Of course, it hasn’t all been smooth shooting. Bob has his fair share of chaotic maker moments, like the time he headed out with his camera bag packed and ready, only to realise he’d forgotten the actual camera. (Don’t worry, his phone stepped in, along with a good dose of tripping over brambles and chasing the light like a madman.) Somehow, the photos from that day still turned out to be some of his favourites.

His craft space? Don’t picture a pristine studio,  think dusty corners that “need a good clean” and an endless battle with sticky masking tape. There’s always cider with ice or pork scratchings nearby, though, to keep the creativity flowing. And if you ever find him in his car’s footwell trying to set up a shot… don’t ask.

Soundtrack-wise, Bob keeps it on theme: Photograph by Def Leppard. And his lucky charm? A grey sweatshirt that seems to show up on every shoot. If his work had a spirit animal, it would be an owl, sharp-eyed, wise, and able to see what’s hidden in the dark. Which, honestly, sums up his photography perfectly.

Because in the end, Picture This isn’t about glossy perfection. It’s about finding beauty in overlooked places, embracing a little chaos, and proving that sometimes, “just winging it” is the best way forward.

And because Bob's not just about capturing the moment byt sharing it.
