Microwave Popcorn Bag

Microwave Popcorn Bag

Say goodbye to store-bought microwave popcorn bags and hello to reusable, healthier movie night magic.

You’ll need:

  • 100% cotton fabric (2 pieces 25x40cm) (for outer and inner layer - I used 2 different fabrics but 1 fat quarter will do both pieces)

  • Cotton thread (no synthetics — it’s going in the microwave)

  • Sewing machine (or hand-sewing skills and patience but it's easy I promise!)

How to make:

  1. Cut two pieces of fabric to about 25x40cm.

  2. Layer and sew the fabric pieces right sides together (leaving an opening to turn right-side out and do so).

  3. Stitch around all edges to close. Fold the short edges in toward the centre (like a burrito) and stitch down each side to form a pocket. (You can also fold the top over so it overlaps slightly and forms an opening like a tissue box like what I did, or leave it open with a flap)

  4. To use: Add ¼ cup popcorn kernels, fold the end over, microwave for 2–3 minutes (keep an ear out for when popping slows).

  5. Add flavouring - honestly get inventive, these are the best flavours!

Cozy tip: Personalise with fun fabric prints — I’ve got a full family affair on the go, personal ones for each family member :P
